Optical Gyroscope

Hitachi cable's Fiber Optic Gyroscope (FOG) is a solid-state rotation rate sensor designed to offer higher performance, lower cost and more reliable alternatives to conventional rate sensors. Best results are achieved by the application of the polarization-maintaining fiber (PMF) two fiber-optic directional couplers and polarizer in all the optical paths. The all-PMF FOG eliminates polarization fluctuation, minimizing the bias drift and enhancing performances. Hitachi Cable?s FOGs commercial applications range from consumer to airborne, underground to surface; focusing on positioning, attitude control and absolute direction measurement types. Cost-effective, highly-birefringent PMFs and PMF components complete the product lineup being used primarily in FOGs, sensors and in the pigtailing of laser and modulators. The results: Improved performance and high reliability.
