Probe cables contain numerous micro coaxial cables bound together to transmit image and other data signals. Hitachi Cable provides finer cables in response to the demand for multicore cables to allow denser infoelectronics. We succeeded in
producing a 48AWG size micro coaxial cable, and developed a more flexible probe cable SONOEASE® to reduce the strain for medical staff when making diagnoses. Based on these advanced manufacturing technologies, we can meet various medical needs, including ultrasound diagnostic apparatus, with our rich product range.

Softer and more flexible
Although multicore products with finer conductors are available, additional flexibility is required for probe cables to enhance the function of diagnostic equipment while minimizing the strain on operators.
SONOEASE® is far less resistive than standard products with bending flexibility. To achieve this, we developed a unique structure that contains
vacant space between each coaxial cable. |

Finer with more conductors |

For high-speed transmission with slimmer probe cables, it is crucial to reduce the diameter of internal coaxial cables. We developed 48AWG sized micro coaxial cable by developing new copper-alloy material for conductors, and improving ultra-thin insulation and jacket extrusion process. Binding 70 such micro coaxial cables makes the over all diameter only 2mm. This is one of the finest multicore, small-diameter probe cables in the world. |

Drawing and extrusion processes
Our process technology for drawing fine conductors,
and extruding ultra-thin insulation over the conductors
help to further reduce the ultra-small diameters of
micro coaxial cables. |

Smaller diameters with lower loss |
A wide range of probe cables, ranging from low
capacitance types of up to 46AWG and high capacitance
types of up to 48AWG, are available. They are
not only fine, but are also designed to keep excellent
transmission performance with lower loss using highconductivity
copper-alloy conductors and thinner
formed insulation with low-dielectric constant.

More robust and longer flex life |
Thorough quality checks and durability
test support the long flex life reliability.
The products are subject to stringent
tests, including continuous bending,
pulling and twisting more than 300,000
cycle times with in-house testing conditions.
Our products are suitable for harsh
usage in medical field.

The applications for medical probe cables, typically used in ultrasound
diagnostic apparatus, are expanded to other medical equipment such as
endoscopes, catheters, and animal probes. Hitachi Cable offers customized
probe cables to meet specific needs depending on the application or
equipment. |

More diverse devices are connected to cables along with changes in the
transmission of the required image signals, from still images to moving
pictures, and from 2D images to 3D visions. Hitachi Cable provides products
for wide-ranging usage via an integrated production system, from fabrication
processes, such as the laser stripping of insulation and outer conductors of
micro coaxial cables and fine-pitch soldering of conductors, all of which
require high precision. |
