Hitachi Cable has confirmed the interoperability of its AquaVocal all-in-one IP-PBX and LANdeVOICE DA301-SIP SIP-compliant door phone adapter
-AquaVocal now supports communications between door phones (intercoms) and IP phones-

*All products of AquaVocal series will end sales on June 30th of 2009.

Hitachi Cable, Ltd. announces successful interoperability of its AquaVocal*1 all-in-one IP-PBX*2 and LANdeVOICE DA301-SIP, the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol)-compliant door phone (intercom) adapter manufactured and sold by A2 Corp. (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, President: Hiroyuki Kaji, referred to as A2 hereafter). This interoperability enables communications between door phones and IP phones.

In recent years, falling prices and the advancing functionality of data communication networks have led to rapid growth in IP telephony systems. The need for IP telephony systems is also increasing in small- and mid-sized offices. Hitachi Cable sells the AquaVocal all-in-one IP-PBX series to meet the demands generated by these conditions. AquaVocal is a single-unit all-in-one IP-PBX that provides diverse functions*3 for implementing a full-IP telephony system in internal and external telephone lines in small- and mid-sized offices with 200 users or less.

Small- and mid-sized offices often connect the door phone placed at the entrance of the office and the internal analog telephone system to improve business efficiency by enabling workers to respond to visitors at their own desks. However, conventional door phones cannot be connected to an IP telephony system, and small- and mid-sized offices have generally found it difficult to introduce full-IP telephony services in a way assuring continued convenience for workers and low cost. This has created demand for an IP telephony system for small- and mid-sized offices that supports door phones. In response, Hitachi Cable recently confirmed the interoperability between its AquaVocal and A2's LANdeVOICE DA301-SIP.

A2's LANdeVOICE DA301-SIP is an adapter that connects commercially available door phones and an IP-PBX, enabling IP-based voice communications. It supports SIP, which is becoming the standard VoIP protocol in Japan. Offices using conventional door phones connected to analog phones can introduce a full-IP telephony system with relative ease simply by connecting AquaVocal IP-PBX for small- and mid-sized offices and a door phone via this LANdeVOICE DA301-SIP.

AquaVocal also supports Hitachi Cable's WirelessIP5000 wireless IP phones and mobile phone/wireless LAN dual terminals. This means that even at sites where workers are often outside the office, such as a factory or warehouse, communications between these terminals and the door phone are possible from anywhere on the premises served by the wireless LAN environment, increasing convenience for both visitor and host.

Hitachi Cable, which generally sells AquaVocal through its sales partners, intends to continue promoting the integration of AquaVocal with various software and applications to increase its share of the IP-PBX market for small- and mid-sized offices.

*1AquaVocal is a registered trademark of Hitachi Cable, Ltd. in Japan.
*2PBX stands for Private Branch Exchange. IP-PBX refers to a Private Branch Exchange for an IP telephony system.
*3In addition to the IP-PBX function, AquaVocal provides various gateway functions (protocol conversion for connecting different networks, including communications carriers, IP telephony networks, the public telephone network, and the internal telephone network); PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet: permits use of PPP over Ethernet networks; the PPP protocol is used to link computers to networks over telephone lines); and a survival function that allows sending and receiving between analog phones and the public network even in the event of power failures.
