CChapter 2 Hitachi Cable's

SecureVoIP for construction of safer and more flexible VoIP systems
IP phones, which use Internet technology for voice communications, are gaining popularity in the office since they can reduce communication costs. Further, the widespread use of IP telephony has led to expansion of the VoIP (Voice over IP) equipment market. In the field of VoIP, Hitachi Cable proposes a concept named "SecureVoIP," with the aim of ensuring network connectivity, maintaining stable communication quality. What's more, the system is powered by the Ethernet power supply system, thus increasing convenience.

The use of Apresia authentication switches not only adds ApresiaNA's advanced authentication functions but also provides traffic priority control which is important for ensuring stable and clear voice communications using VoIP. For example, by determining the priority of packets based on the value of ToS (type of service) in the IP header, QoS (quality of service) can be maintained at a high level. This system can also add a ToS field value to IP phone terminals not supporting ToS, or change the ToS value (remarking of ToS) according to the priority levels of applications.

Hitachi Cable has recently introduced a PoE (power over Ethernet) switch unit. This product, named ApresiaLight 209-PoE, is an L2 switch unit equipped with nine 100Base-TX/10Base-TX ports. It supports IEEE802.3af, and has eight downlink ports with a large maximum power supply capacity of 74 W, and one uplink port. When PoE-compatible IP phones are connected to these downlink ports, these phones do not require AC adaptors, thus adding flexibility to office layout. The downlink ports can be also connected with wireless LAN access points and monitoring cameras that support PoE.

WirelessIP5000 IP phone
Hitachi Cable's WirelessIP5000 is an all-round wireless IP phone in compliance with the SIP standard which is quickly becoming the industry standard VoIP protocol. This product is compatible with open-specification SIP servers offered by many manufacturers, and also uses the IEEE802.b wireless communication standard commonly adopted today. Wireless IP 5000 allows simple construction of a wireless IP network using the equipment present in offices.

AquaVocal
Hitachi Cable's AquaVocal series is an ideal middle-range VoIP solution for small to medium-sized businesses with less than 200 users. It provides a PRI*1 gateway function and a PSTN*2 gateway function, and can be also added with an IP-PBX function by upgrading the software. The compact body of the AquaVocal series is packed with a host of functions and excellent scalability. Further, the AquaVocal unit can be combined with various products equipped with SIP, PBX, IP routing, and other functions, allowing systems to be tailor-made to users. For instance, it allows utilization of an existing PBX or internal telephone network, installation of IP phones only in selected office zones, or full-scale introduction of an IP telephony system. Thanks to the flexible scalability of the AquaVocal series, products can be added to the system when needed, thus minimizing the initial cost and achieving a gradual switchover to IP in stages.
