As we move toward a networks and electronics-based society,
the technological revolution in semiconductor devices continues to accelerate.
Hitachi Cable expects strong growth in such semiconductor devices for the
optical market as laser diodes (LDs) for DVDs - increasingly the choice
for storage media in the broadband age- and light emitting diodes (LEDs)
for digital device light sources and display elements. This month, we introduce
Hitachi Cable's efforts in these areas, beginning with gallium arsenide
(GaAs) compound semiconductors, the semiconductor materials indispensable
for optical devices.
