By taking into consideration the environment from the design and development stage of products, the Hitachi
Cable Group offers products with less environmental burdens. Products compliant with the evaluation standard
exclusively set up by the Hitachi Group are designated as "environmental-friendly products," and those with the
highest levels of satisfaction as "super-environmental-friendly products" and make efforts to increase the use of
these products. As an index of affluence, we also calculate "environmental efficiency (factor X)" to quantitatively
evaluate global warming prevention and resource-saving initiatives as a new index of affluence and promote the
improvement of those figures. The Group continues to introduce mechanisms to comprehensively tackle challenges
throughout the life stages of individual products.

Design for Environment |
We have conducted "environment-compliant design
assessment" to take the environment into account from the
design and development stages of individual products as
one mechanism to reduce the burden on the environment
and effectively use limited resources toward the realization
of a sustainable society in harmony with the environment.
By comparing eight environmental impacts, including
downsizing of products, long-term usability and energy
saving with those of conventional products, we strive
to develop products with less environmental burdens.
"Environmental-friendly products" satisfying certain
standards and certified reached a total of 164 products as
of the end of FY2009. Sales expanded to 187.2 billion yen
(FY2009), and the registration rate representing the ratio
to total sales increased to 85%. Among them are a total of
nine "super-environmental-friendly products," including
seven added in FY2009. To be designated in this category, it
is necessary to have an "environmental efficiency" at least
ten times as much as that of conventional products and be
highly appreciated outside the Group as proved by awards or
recognition by industry leaders or external institutes.
Toward the future, the Group shall continue to engage
itself in developing products that are eco-friendly throughout
the life stages of individual products from raw materials,
manufacture, transportation, use, disposal and recycling.
