Philosophy and system of procurement |
Under the basic principles of fairness, justice and equal
opportunities, Hitachi Cable selects partners based on a total
judgment in accordance with the Hitachi Cable Group's purchasing
standards, regardless of the country and scale. In procurement,
we attempt to share a sense of social responsibility with partners
such as compliance with relevant laws and regulations and a
consideration of the global environment and aim to establish
relationships to widely contribute to society through mutual
business as good partners.
As a forum to share the basic policies on purchasing and to
enable purchasing staff to reflect on their own purchase activities,
we also hold a Hitachi Cable Group Materials Meeting both in
Japan and abroad once a year. The company further holds Group
training courses on compliance with relevant laws and regulations
and ethics on materials associated with procurement activities
every year, implementing continuous education.

Our Group is involved in many diverse fields of operations
and manufacture and sell a wide range of products by
industry and service. In order to conduct manufacturing that
is compliant with various social responsibilities, including
environmental conservation, it is essential to share CSR-consciousness
with partners jointly engaged in business
activities.
Hitachi Cable has opened a website on materials
information, widely disclosing its procurement policies
and other information and holds explanatory meetings for
suppliers when appropriate. In FY2010, Hitachi Cable will
host explanatory meetings on compliance with REACH
regulations for about 1,200 partners subject to this initiative
as required. Furthermore, in order to prevent information
leakage, we regularly hold investigations on compliance with
information leakage prevention. |

Promotion of procurement compliant with environmental CSR |
In order to comply with RoHS directives and other chemical
substance regulations, our Group has established rules for
eco-friendly manufacturing (Environmental CSR-Compliant
Manufacturing Standards), reviewing corporate-wide
manufacturing from a CSR viewpoint and continues initiatives
toward a reduction of environmental burdens for the complete
lifecycles of products from design to disposal.
In FY2007, the Group established "Hitachi Cable Group
Green Procurement Guidelines," distributed copies to partners,
solicited cooperation for survey of chemical substances contained
in products and auditing, and continuously implements green
procurement.
In FY2009, we started an environmental supplier certification
system, began to operate the "Environmental Supplier Certification
Database" on information and promoted registration and
certification of environmental quality of procured items.
